Little Shelter Animal Rescue Holiday Donation Drive

Donations Down 30% This Year

December 22, 2009, Huntington, NY - Little Shelter Animal Rescue & Adoption Center www.littleshelter.com, one of Long Island's oldest no-kill shelters dedicated to saving all companion animals in need, announced today a Holiday Donation Drive.

Little Shelter is under financial pressure and must cut back on services for needy animals due to a 30% decrease in donations, the 2009 closing of two Long Island shelters (Bide-A-Wee in Wantagh and Animal Haven in Flushing), and the bad economy, unemployment and foreclosures causing more animals to be surrendered to the shelter.

Without holiday donations, Little Shelter will be forced to cut back on medical care for its 400 cats and 50 dogs and will reduce essential community animal care services.

Little Shelter Helps Needy Families Keep their Cherished Pets at Home
Known for its community outreach and the rescue of countless senior and special needs animals, as well as abandoned pets from Hurricane Katrina, Little Shelter works to provide the highest standard of care for every dog and cat rescued.  With a Foster Home Network and Animal Soup Kitchen that aids countless low income households throughout the Long Island area, Little Shelter is determined to help even animals that don't reside at the shelter to make it possible for families to keep their cherished pets at home by providing them with food and medical supplies.

82 Years of Service to the Most Innocent and Helpless Creatures
"The season of charity and spirit of giving is upon us.  The animal residents of Little Shelter know the importance of that spirit more than anyone else. After 82 years of exceptional service to the community and keeping the holiday spirit alive all year, every year, we are asking for your help.  These animals are the most innocent and helpless creatures touched by this economic crisis. Without donations, we will be unable to care for the many senior and special needs animals that reside here and won't be able to maintain the care that communities, people, and animals have come to depend on us for years," said Maryann Chernovsky, President, Little Shelter Animal Rescue & Adoption Center.

Life-saving tax deductible donations can be made online to save dogs and cats at: http://www.littleshelter.com/fundraisers/donations.htm or by sending a check of any amount to:
